The 142nd Wing has begun making cloth masks for the Airmen working on the Portland Air National Guard Base.
Colonel Adam Sitler, 142nd Wing Commander, explained why the wing has started this process. "We are following Air Force guidance to care for our members, and do our part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our community. Based on the critical shortage of personal protective equipment, we elected to utilize our own supplies, and workforce, to make face coverings for our members."
Sitler went on to explain how the wing's Aircrew Flight Equipment shop is uniquely suited for this tasking. "Aircrew flight equipment technicians are skilled at sewing. They usually sew parachute harnesses, and other life-saving gear for pilots and special warfare members. In this case, they are sewing life-saving gear for our wing populace at large."
In this B-roll, the wing's supply chief, Senior Master Sgt. Denise Phillips, cuts and sews masks, and provides an interview at the end of the video.
