In 2017 the US Army began transforming Combat Support Hospitals into Field Hospitals in order to provide a more expeditionary, thus more flexible way to provide care to its Soldiers.
That flexibility is paying off as the 502nd Field Hospital at Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea, rapidly deployed to Camp Carroll in Waegwan, just north of the southern city of Daegu, to stand up a COVID-19 Isolation Facility. The 502nd was ready to support the Daegu military community just as civilian cases in nearby Daegu ballooned into the thousands and the first U.S. servicemembers were diagnosed with the virus.
