Margaret Womble, the ship’s sponsor and daughter of the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis’ (CVN 74) namesake, speaks about the hard work of Sailors throughout the years. A ship’s sponsor, chosen by the secretary of the navy, is typically a female selected for her relationship to the ship’s namesake or its current mission. The John C. Stennis is pierside in its new home port, Norfolk, after completing a seven-month deployment, and is preparing for refueling complex overhaul.
