A video compilation featuring a wreath-laying ceremony for Sergeant Major Henry H. Black conducted on Nov. 10, 2019 at Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Virginia, Vietnam and Korean War footage, and audio of Black describing his experiences in the Marine Corps. Black, Imperial, Pennsylvania native, served in the Marine Corps from 1948-1977, including several tours in the Vietnam and Korean Wars and was the 7th Sergeant Major of the Marine Corps. His personal awards include a Silver Star, a Legion of Merit, a Bronze Star with āVā for valor and two award stars, a Purple Heart, and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, a Combat Action Ribbon, among several others. Black also spent time as a recruiter and a drill instructor before becoming the SMMC for two years, from 1975-1977. Black passed away in his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia in 2012 and is commemorated each on the Marine Corps Birthday, Nov. 10, during a wreath-laying ceremony at his gravesite in Quantico National Cemetery in Triangle, Virginia. The ceremony is conducted by Marines from Marine Corps Base Quantico, including the Base Sergeant Major.
