Ret. U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Edwin “Gene” Neeley, one of the founding members of the 169th Fighter Squadron, received the Legion of Honor from the French government in Peoria Heights, Ill., Sept. 27, 2019, for his contributions to the liberation of France during World War II. The Legion of Honor is France’s highest decoration bestowed to World War II veterans who fought under enemy fire on French soil. (U.S. Air National Guard video by Tech. Sgt.
