    SUMMARY:
This year marks the 75th anniversary of Operation Market Garden, the largest airborne operation in military history.
Operation Market Garden occurred during WWII from Sept. 17-25, 1944. Its main goal was to secure nine bridges in the Netherlands and gain a foothold into enemy territory.
The operation succeeded in the liberation of two Dutch cities and many towns.
The major U.S. Forces involved in the operation were the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division.
Commemoration ceremonies held throughout the week and across the region celebrated, honored and remembered the efforts and achievements of the Allied veterans who helped free the Dutch people from Nazi control.
