The 9th Maintenance Squadron sheet metal shop is repairing a vertical stabilizer to serve as a memorial to Lt. Col. Ira Eadie. Eadie passed away after a U-2 crash September 20, 2016. The vertical stabilizer was salvaged from the crash and after being refurbished it will be put on display in his honor.

    TRANSCRIPT:

WE’RE WORKING ON AIRCRAFT 1068’S VERTICLE STABILIZER. AIRCRAFT 1068 UNFORTUNATELY A COUPLE YEARS AGO CRASHED IN THE BUTTE MOUNTAINS, SO NOW WE’RE JUST TRYING TO RE-FABRICATE AND REPRODUCE THE PRODUCT TO WHAT IT WAS BEFORE TO USE IT AS A MEMORIAL FOR COLONEL EADIE.
WHENEVER WE DO JOBS IN SHEET METAL WE ALWAYS WANT IT TO LOOK JUST AS GOOD AS IT WAS AND RE-FABRICATE THINGS TO WHATEVER THE STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY WAS BUT THIS ONE’S REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT’S DEDICATED TO SOMEONE THAT UNFORTUNATELY PASSED AWAY.
