U.S. Airmen and Soldiers with the Missouri Air and Army National Guard, along with civilian counterparts, take part in the disaster response exercise Vigilant Guard, at Mozingo Outdoor Education and Recreation Area, in Maryville, Mo., June 4, 2019.
Vigilant Guard is part of a larger eight-state exercise, Shaken Fury 2019, organized by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, to evaluate and improve emergency coordination, response, and recovery management with federal, regional, state, local, and military partners.
In the exercise scenario, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake strikes the southwest segment of the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ) near Memphis, Tennessee, affecting Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
Soldiers with the 1136th Military Police Company, Airmen with the 139th Airlift Wing, Missouri Air National Guard, and the Urban Search and Rescue teams with Missouri Task Force 1 participated in the response exercise.
