    The invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944, was the largest military invasion in history and the turning point of World War II. About 160,000 Allied troops took part in that massive campaign. One of them was Navy gunner’s mate Vernon Lingle, who, at 94, still remembers it all clearly.
