Recently, retired Capt. Aubrey Daniel told his story at a ceremony held in his honor in Vicenza. Lt. Gen. Charles Pede, U.S. Army judge advocate general, honored Daniel, the lead prosecutor in the Lt. William Calley trial for atrocities committed during the My Lai Massacre in Vietnam, naming him a Distinguished Member of the Regiment of the U.S. Army JAG Corps for a letter of protest he wrote to then-President Richard Nixon, who had reduced the severity of Calley's sentence.
