A C-130 Hercules aircraft loaded with the USDA Forest Service MAFFS II (Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System) from the 153rd Airlift Wing, Wyoming Air National Guard, positions itself to drop water as part of the annual training and recertification in Colorado Springs, Co. The 302nd Airlift Wing at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado, is hosting the annual training, where members of the Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard with the 302nd, the 152nd and the 153rd Airlift Wing from Cheyenne, Wyoming, train for the 2019 fire season. The MAFFS unit is capable of dropping 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant in 6 seconds. These aircraft are activated to help out the USDA Forest service tankers when wildfire activity is high.
