Established in 2017 by the SECAF and reporting to the Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force, AFWERX is a catalyst for agile Air Force engagement across industry, academia, and non-traditional contributors to create transformative opportunities and foster an Air Force culture of innovation.
Spark leverages the ingenuity of Air Force intrapreneurs at the base level and non-traditional partners to create unique opportunities for the military’s operational experts to collaborate with the top problem solvers in industry, academia, and the government.
With the support of AFWERX, Spark is building a decentralized network of Air Force bases around the world to execute locally generated ideas and projects. These Spark Cells give Airmen access to resources and support across the AF innovation network. The innovation network enables rapid communication and scaling across the enterprise.
