Civilians attend a Joint Civilian Orientation Conference, June 11-15, 2018, to learn about the armed forces through a variety of experiences, including a mini-boot camp and a rifle range, and discussions with service members at Joint Base Charleston, S.C.; Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, S.C.; Army Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Moody Air Force Base, Ga.; Naval Station Norfolk, Va.; Joint Expeditionary Base, Little Creek, Va.; and the Pentagon.
The program is the oldest and most prestigious in the Defense Department and is the only outreach program sponsored by the secretary of defense. The conferences are held annually and are designed to increase public understanding of national defense by enabling American business and community leaders to directly observe and engage with the U.S. military.
