Video message from the Army Corps of Engineers, New England District Commander.
This is COL Bill Conde, commander of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineer’s New England District. On behalf of 500 Passionate & Dedicated employees located throughout our 66,000 square-mile region and six states, I want to WELCOME you to Concord, Massachusetts.
I’m standing next to the Minute Man statue with the Old North Bridge in front of me. It was in this very spot in 1775 where the “Shot Heard ‘Round the World” was fired and the Revolutionary War began.
During the war, General George Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, appointed Colonel Richard Gridley as the first Chief of Engineers. Today, New England is considered the birthplace of the Corps of Engineers.
