    The 1st Infantry Division’s 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Combat Aviation Brigade and 1st Sustainment Brigade will take part in a combined colors casing ceremony at 9 a.m. Jan. 15 on Marshall Army Airfield.

    A color-casing ceremony symbolizes the end of unit activities in its current location and the start of its movement toward deployment.

    Almost 4,000 1st ABCT Soldiers will replace Soldiers the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, as part of a regular rotation of forces to Europe in support of the Atlantic Resolve mission. The 1st Cav. Div. brigade will return to Fort Hood, Texas.

    Approximately 2,700 1st CAB Soldiers will replace those from the Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Infantry Division, in Europe also in support of Atlantic Resolve. The 4th Inf. Div. brigade will return to Fort Carson, Colorado.

    The 1st ABCT and 1st CAB will fall under the Mission Command Element (Provisional), which is led by Col. Patrick R. Michaelis, MCE deputy commanding officer, and Soldiers from the 1st Inf. Div. headquarters.

    Atlantic Resolve’s mission is to build readiness, increase interoperability and enhance the bond between ally and partner militaries using multinational training events in Bulgaria, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Romania.

    More than 150 1st Inf. Div. Sust. Bde. headquarters Soldiers will replace Soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division Sustainment Brigade from Fort Campbell, Kentucky, as a part of a regular rotation of forces to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom's Sentinel.
