Lt. Col. Bart Ward, 127th Wing, Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Mich., and Master Sgt. Charles Barth, Grayling Air Gunnary Range, Mich., were decorated with the Commander of the Land Forces Medal for Merit, 3rd Class, at Ādaži Military Base, Latvia, Nov. 15, 2018. The awards were presented by Col. Ilmars Lejiņš, Land Forces Brigade Commander, National Armed Forces of Latvia. Ward and Barth received the honor for their contributions to the development of Latvia’s Joint Tactical Air Controller program, recognized as one of the finest JTAC capabilities in Europe. Michigan and Latvia have enjoyed a close bond under the U.S. National Guard Bureau’s State Partnership Program since 1993. (Air National Guard video by 1st Lt. Andrew Layton/released).
