The unit is part of NATO’s Very High Readiness Joint Task Force, which is exercising in Norway as
part of Trident Juncture 2018. NATO and Norway are having one of the largest military exercises
ever held in the country. During October and November, around 50,000 participants from all
over NATO and its partners come to Norway for exercise Trident Juncture 2018.
The exercise tests the military chain – from troop training at the tactical level to command over
large forces. It trains the troops of the NATO Response Force and forces from other allies and
partners, ensuring they can work seamlessly together.

“We’re hear working jointly with other NATO partners to ensure that we can operate together
in the future to meet the requirements of NATO force protection and assist our allies where
required to deter and deal with any future threats. Obviously, that’s a complicated task and
liaison officers are put in the headquarters locations to make sure that the flow of information
and interoperability happens quickly.”

“There should be a lot of interesting activity going on. We first have a defensive stance against
the enemy threat so we’ll be conducting delay tactics to hold them back and slow their
advance. We’ll then move into an offensive phase where we’ll be regaining the territory that’s
lost and a culminating in a large engineer-led crossing of the River Glomma.”

“Working in a multinational environment is great because we can learn from each other. It’s a
good opportunity to find out how other nations are working with their procedures, but on the
other hand we must put everything together. I’ve really enjoyed this because I see how this is a
good pattern of how to cooperate with others and I can learn a lot but I’m trying also to give
something to others so I think it’s convenient for everyone to be here.”
