Question: Hvordan vil du beskrive viktigheten av NATO for forsvaret av Norge?
Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen:
NATO er ryggraden i det norske forsvar og vi lærte jo fra andre verdenskrig at vi er for liten til å stå på egne
ben ovenfor store nasjoner. Alliansefellesskap, sikring gjennom at flere støtter hverandre, er viktig for
forsvaret av Norge. NATO er vårt valg. Det at NATO kommer hit og kjører en så stor øvelse som Trident
Juncture 18, er viktig for troverdigheten av NATO og det er viktig for troverdigheten av de norske
forsvarsplanene.
Question: Hvordan vil du beskrive Forsvarets mottakelse av NATO styrkene denne høsten?
Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen:
Vi har jobbet nå i uker og måneder om ikke år, med å planlegge mottaket av de allierte styrkene. Så langt
har det gått, etter min vurdering, meget bra. Og det er ikke bare på grunn av Forsvaret, men jeg vil også
berømme hele den norske befolkning som har tatt imot de allierte med åpne armer. Som har støttet
deployeringen inn i de ulike områdene hvor vi skal øve og som er glad for å se at NATO er her. At de 29
medlemslandene er opptatt av Norge og er villig til å forsvare oss og vår frihet.
Question: Er du fornøyd med øvelsen så langt? Er det noe du er spesielt fornøyd med?
Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen:
Selve øvelsen starter idag (25/10/2018) så den fasen vi har holdt på med nå, er å ta imot alle styrkene. Det
har gått veldig bra. Vi har gjort det uten nevneverdig uhell.

Question: How would you describe the importance of NATO for the defence of Norway?
Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen:
NATO is the backbone of the Norwegian defence and did learn after World War II that we are too small to
stand on our own feet in relation to big nations. The alliance, security through supporting each other, is
important for the defence of Norway. NATO is our choice. That NATO comes here (Norway) and conducts
a large exercise such as Trident Juncture 18, is important for the credibility of NATO and is important of the
credibility for the Norwegian defence plans.
Question: How would you describe the Armed Forces reception of the NATO forces this fall?
Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen:
We´ve worked now for weeks and months, if not years, in planning the reception of the allied forces. So far
it has gone, in my opinion, very well. And that´s not only because of the Armed Forces, but I would also like
to commend the entire Norwegian population that have received the allied (forces) with open arms. Those
who have supported the deployment into those different areas where we are going to exercise and that are
happy to see that NATO is here. That the 29 member countries are is focused on Norway and willing to
defend us and our freedom.

Question: Are you satisfied with the exercise so far? Is it anything in particular you´re satisfied with?
Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen:
The exercise itself starts today (25/10/2018), so the phase we have been working up until now, is to receive
all the forces. This has gone very well. We have done this without any noteworthy accidents.
