Airmen from the 334th Air Expeditionary Group conducted familiarization flights along the South Carolina coast near Myrtle Beach to provide a tactical picture of the the area and resources available, familiarization with the local air space, and preparation for the 334th AEG to respond to a rescue mission in 30 mins or less when called. This group was formed as a response to Hurricane Florence and as a preemptive measure to ensure U.S. Northern Command had assets able and willing to provide rescue and relief if the affected states request it.
If they were activated while flying this familiarization flight, they would have immediately started performing search and rescue operations.
