    Bilateral CBRNE Training:

    Narration:
U.S. Army Japan conducted the first Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense training - or CRBNE training, in collaboration with the Japan Ground Self Defense Force. The exercise builds readiness against a broad spectrum of contingencies as well as develops interoperability with Camp Zama's bilateral partners.

Interview: CPT James B. Hargus, Chief of Protection, U.S. Army Japan

    Narration:
The training was designed to evaluate U.S. Army Japan Soldiers and Japan Ground Defense Force members responses to CBRNE scenarios including decontamination of personnel and vehicles as well as real-life medical support to handle a wide variety of hazardous scenarios.

Interview: SSG Stephen M. Schulze, Exercise Participant

Interview: SGM Hayato Kumahata, 1st Nuclear Biological Chemical Weapon Defense Unit, JGSDF
Although it was sometimes difficult to communicate with the U.S. Army Soldiers during the exercise because of the language barrier, we prepared forms and signs that were translated in English and used hand gestures to communicate with each other, so I believe we accomplished our missions successfully today.

    Narration:
More than a hundred personnel from on and off the installation participated in the exercise, which aims to increase CBRNE coordination and communication efforts between the various units.

Interview: MAJ Susumu Shimamiya, Operations Officer, Plan & Operations Div. Eastern Army, JGSDF
Cooperation between Japan and the U.S. is absolute; it allows us to work together to solve future common goals. Working together in events such as this can only enhance our partnership and help us work better together.

Interview: CPT James B. Hargus, Chief of Protection, U.S. Army Japan
