Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton service members and personnel celebrate and recognize Women’s Equality Day. Women’s Equality Day is celebrated annually on Aug. 26 to honor the adoption of the 19th Amendment of the United States Constitution, which prohibits both the state and federal government from denying U.S. citizens the right to vote based on gender. In 1973, Congresswoman Bella Abzug officially designated the annual observance, after numerous conflicts over the Equal Rights Amendment occurred. U.S. Marines are treated equal no matter their race, religious preference or gender. (U.S. Marine Corps video by Lance Cpl. Noah Rudash)
