A U.S. Air Force AC-130W Stinger II, from the 16th Expeditionary Special Operations Squadron, and its aircrew launch to provide close air support and overwatch for special operations ground forces in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, Syria, July 24, 2018. The 16th ESOS is responsible for conducting close air support for special operations ground forces. In conjunction with Partner Forces, Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve defeats ISIS in designated areas of Iraq and Syria and sets conditions for follow-on operations to increase regional stability. CJTF-OIR leverages the full effects of the Coalition’s capabilities in a cohesive campaign, remains unified, strong and committed to the military defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria and is dedicated to enabling the military defeat of ISIS in Iraq and Syria.
