Army Reserve Soldiers with the 1984th Army Hospital based in Honolulu, Hawaii, spend their two-week annual training providing basic medical services to under served populations in the Kea’au region on the big island of Hawaii. They are taking part in Innovative Readiness Training, a program which allows the Army Reserve to provide these much needed services all over the United States. This mission is known as Tropic Care and takes place at Kea’au High School. People of this region are able to receive basic medical, dental and optometry care in a cost-free environment. IRT missions such as Tropic Care, allow soldiers to stay ready and use their civilian and military skills to help out people in their local communities. The Army Reserve partners with local community leader, volunteers and even students from the University of Hawaii in order to best serve the local population.
