The Secretary General is on a visit to the United States of America between 16-18 May. On Thursday, 17 May he met with The President of the United States of America, Donald J. Trump. They discussed preparations for the Summit of NATO leaders in Brussels on 11-12 July, including NATO's growing contribution to the fight against terrorism and fairer burden-sharing within the Alliance.

On Wednesday evening, the Secretary General also met with Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo, Secretary of State James Mattis and Ambassador John Bolton, Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs at the State Department for talks on the situation in Syria, Iran and Russia.
