U.S. Armed Forces and Armed Forces of the Philippines participate in a combine arms live-fire exercise (CALFEX) at Colonel Ernesto Ravina Air Base, Tarlac, Philippines, on May 15, 2018. The CALFEX event showcased the orchestration of air and ground troops to seize an objective during Exercise Balikatan. The exercise was designed to integrate the Philippine military with U.S. forces in a combined arms scenario and expose them to the benefits of integrated fires. Balikatan, in its 34th iteration, is an annual U.S.-Philippine military training focused on a variety of missions, including humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, counterterrorism, and other combined military operations held from May 7 to May 18.
