Soldiers from the South Carolina National Guard's 251st ASMC and Maryland
National Guard's 231st Chemical Company teamed up to treat casualty victims
during Guardian Response 2018, April 12, 2018. National Guard Engineer
units from other states including South Carolina, Alabama and Florida
collaborated to help with search and rescue during the event as well. The commander of the 251st ASMC, Maj. David Blackmon, comments on the exercise and the benefits it has for his Soldiers and those of the 231st. Army North conducts Exercise Guardian Response annually as part of its mission to train the nation's military CBRN response capability. Throughout April, approximately 5,000 personnel will train in aviation, medical, engineering, logistics and other life-saving tasks during the exercise simulating a demanding disaster environment.
