Prior to the development of the M-1917, known amongst Troops as the Tin Hat, armed forces entered into battle wearing cloth or leather headgear. Before deploying to Europe, our 2d Cavalry Regiment Dragoons received an initial fielding for training in order to ensure correct sizing and would later be issued the Tin Hat as they approached the front lines. All artifacts featured in the 2CR in World War 1 video series are maintained at the Reed Museum located at Rose Barracks, Germany.
