A North Korean defector ran to safety at the Joint Security Area controlled by Combined Forces Command (CFC) in South Korea. Just across the Demilitarized Zone, the defector was shot by North Koreans and rescued by CFC troops. Several CFC Soldiers were recognized for their valiant efforts by GEN Vincent K. Brooks, Commander, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command, United States Forces Korea, in a special ceremony.
