Recruits of Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, fought using pugil sticks to utilize bayonet techniques during the Crucible Jan. 20, 2017, on Parris Island, S.C. During the Crucible, recruit training’s 54-hour culminating event, recruits are assessed on their perseverance and teamwork, some of which is tested through the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program.
