Video by Tech. Sgt. Joe Woolston

    366th Fighter Wing

NARRATION (TSgt Joe Woolston Reporting): Gunfighters from Mountain Home Air Force Base travelled to Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City Florida to participate in a Combat Archer Checkered Flag warfighter readiness exercise.

SB (Lt Col Mark Nyberg - ADO, 389th Fighter Squadron):
Combat Archer Gives us an opportunity to test the effectiveness of the weapon systems and not just the systems themselves but the people involved in that everywhere from the maintainers, the ammo troops, building up the missiles, to the folks that are going to load them on the jet, maintainers generating those aircraft, the aircraft then flying out and employing those missiles in environments we may not be able to replicate or train to.

NARRATION (TSgt Joe Woolston Reporting): Whatever the environment, these gunfighter have adapted as a team to execute their training mission. They’re practicing to improve their readiness and to overcome the barriers associated with being away from home.

SB (Lt Col Mark Nyberg - ADO, 389th Fighter Squadron):
Ultimately the most important part is to generate the data, that we need in order to learn.

NARRATION (TSgt Joe Woolston Reporting): Checkered Flag, on the other hand is a learning experience much like recent Red Flag exercises in Nevada and Alaska, but at Tyndall, they’re able to expand their reach with other units.

SB (Lt Col Mark Nyberg - ADO, 389th Fighter Squadron):
Its focused on providing an air to air fight. they’re able to put together a bigger airspace for use, which means you can bring together more effectively much larger numbers of aircraft.

NARRATION (TSgt Joe Woolston Reporting): Gunfighters adapt to generate sorties and maintain readiness... from anywhere at any time, all during Combat Archer and Checkered Flag 2018. From Tyndall Air Force Base, I’m Tech Sergeant Joe Woolston.
