An annual Marine Corps Birthday wreath laying ceremony will take place at the grave of Sgt. Maj. Thomas J. McHugh, 3rd sergeant major of the Marine Corps, at the Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, N.C., Nov. 10, 2017. Since Nov. 10, 1954, wreath laying ceremonies honoring former Commandants and Sergeants Major have been conducted at their gravesides or other places as a continuing part of the Marine Corps birthday tradition.
