A change of command ceremony was held at Wheeler Army Airfield as the Commander of the Hawaii Army National Guard, Brigadier General Keith Y. Tamashiro, relinquished command and passed on his position to Brigadier General Kenneth S. Hara on October 15, 2017.

General Tamashiro took command of the Hawaii Army National Guard on August 2, 2015. Prior to being promoted to Brigadier General, General Tamashiro served as the Assistant Adjutant General with a dual role as the Director of the Joint Staff of the Hawaii Army National Guard.
General Hara assumed as the Assistant Adjutant General – Army, Hawaii National Guard and the Deputy Adjutant General for the State of Hawaii, Department of Defense in January 2015. He serves as the primary advisor to the Adjutant General for the State of Hawaii.
