Staff Sgt. Thompson and his 482nd Civil Engineer Squadron "brothers" volunteered to stay behind on Homestead ARB DURING the largest Atlantic Ocean hurricane. It was his mission to ensure the airfield would be able to reopen as quickly as possible to allow relief efforts to begin immediately.
He re-enlisted in front of a tree that was taken out during Hurricanes Andrew AND Irma. The tree will be resurrected and grow roots once again. Sgt. Thompson's roots are also firmly planted at Homestead:
