PORTLAND AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Ore. – Members of the Oregon Air National Guard’s 125th Special Tactics Squadron have left Portland, Ore. to provide humanitarian support for Hurricane Irma relief in Florida.
15 Oregon Air National Guardsmen departed from Portland Air National Guard Base at around 1:30 a.m. on a C-17 aircraft from the 167th Airlift Wing in West Virginia headed to Hurlburt Field in Florida. In Florida, the Airmen will conduct rescue operations as well as reestablish air fields that may become inoperable due to the hurricane.
Along with the 15 airmen, some of whom recently returned from supporting Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas, the Special Tactics Squadron brought 3 inflatable Zodiac boats with them to aid in their operations.
For Hurricane Harvey, a total of 20 Airmen from Portland Air National Guard Base provided relief efforts. 17 were from the 125th STS, while 3 were from the Air Force Reserves 304th Rescue Squadron.
