The Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center is serving as a staging area for aircraft from Fort Rucker, Ala., in the wake of Hurricane Irma. The base will house 17 CH-47 Chinooks and 20 UH-60 Blackhawks of Fort Rucker's 110th Aviation Training Brigade. The aircraft will remain at Camp Shelby for approximately three to four days, weather dependent, for protection from potential damage from Hurricane Irma. The aircraft arrived at Camp Shelby around 8 a.m. Saturday, Sep. 9, 2017. The unit will also stage 32 Apaches at the Mississippi Air National Guard's Key Field in Meridian, Miss. The following states and aircraft are scheduled to be staged at the MSANG's Combat Readiness Training Center - Battlefield Airman Center in Gulfport, Miss., for protection from Hurricane Irma: 34 UH-60 Blackhawks, 2 CH-47 Chinooks, and 2 UH-72 Lakotas from Florida units; and 5 UH-60 Blackhawks from Alabama units.
