U.S. Marine Corps Training and Education Command

    7 Foundational Movement – Hinge
Primary Muscle Groups – Glutes, Hamstring
Secondary Muscle Groups – Lower Back, Quadriceps
    Preparation:
One Marine will lay flat on the deck in a modified position of attention. The other Marine will approach the Marine on the deck, from the direction of the head. In order to initiate the starting position, the Marine standing will execute a proper squat and position the hands under the shoulders or in the armpits of the Marine on the deck.
    Execution:
The Marine performing the power-up will deadlift the Marine on the deck and position a leg behind the Marine. The Marine standing will rotate the hands until the fingers are oriented upward and continue to drive with the body until both Marines are standing. The Marine will then slowly and safely lower the Marine back to the deck in the reverse order.
Common Mistakes: - Rounding of the back.
    - Bringing the hips up first and not moving as one piece.
