    111th Attack Wing

Historic monument designer, creator and former 111th Attack Wing member, Emilio Lucciotti, wanted to find a long-lost friend. He found it July 18, 2017 on the steps of the 111th Attack Wing’s Headquarters steps in the form of the obelisk dedicated to past Airmen of the wing.

Designed in the 80’s, built from donated funds from past and present members of the day. At almost 8-foot tall and more than two-tons, made from Vermont granite with the Minute Man symbol of the Air National Guard carved into the surface.

For Staff Sgt. Emilio Lucciotti driving his caddy, still young at heart, at 93… Yep, he’s been around a while, still sharp as a tack, eager to share these moments to anyone who’ll listen.

An obelisk, a memorial, a monument, call it what you want. Tall and hard as the men whose names are etched on its face, along with the dates of those members when they paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Lucciotti recalls his memories of times past on the heels of the 72nd anniversary of the A-bomb deliveries to Japan.
