MG Marius Harabagiu, Romanian Land Forces commander talks to press
''Firstly, I would like to thank Major General Cave for the efforts of JFC Naples in planning and coordinating the deployment of the troops to Romania. At the same time, I would like to highlight that we are witnessing a historical moment. Three years after the Wales Summit, the VJTF deploys on the Romanian territory. Noble Jump 17 is a multinational deployment exercise on short notice that was planned by JFC Naples together with ROU MOD, it is led by ARRC from the UK and also involves the two NATO Headquarters based in Romania – Headquarters Multinational Division South-East and NATO Force Integration Unit Romania. At the same time, the exercise is very important because it shows the capabilities and readiness of the Alliance in order to deter the threats we encounter nowadays. It is also a very important event for Romania because we, as a nation, can show our competency, will to succeed and determination to support as a Host Nation in a joint military operation involving interinstitutional coordination. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the soldiers from the 11 NATO countries involved in the exercise as well as the public authorities supporting our efforts. I would like to also thank the citizens who, through their support and patience will contribute to the success of this exercise. Last but not least, I would like to thank you for being here today in this historical moment. “

SOUNDBITE IN ENGLISH
MG Ian Cave, Exercise Director
“The Alliance in 2014 at the Wales summit decided to increase the readiness of forces and also the size of the readiness and response forces. And what we see today behind us is the result of two years of development, it’s really the second year this concept has been practiced, phsycailly, but the first time it’s come down into south-east Europe”
“And I know, having spoken to the convoy commander, that the support that they’ve received already so far from our Bulgarian brothers, and I expect we will receive today, will be absolutely exceptional”
“So you’ll remember from Wales and from Warsaw, in 2016, a very clear standard from all 28 Allies that, in order to have a credible, collective defence we need to exercise across Allied territory. So, while this is the first time this particular set of exercises has taken place in Romania, the desired effect is to practice the ability to deliver to our politicians the capability that they’ve requested of us.”
