Twice a year, growing a mustache actually has a purpose. Petty Officer Lorelei Vander Griend reports on the Mustache March kickoff where service members are welcome to honor an Air Force legend.
Reporter:
Mustache March is a tradition inspired from an old hero, Brigadier General Robin Olds, famous for his leadership in the Vietnam War as well as his mustache …
SB: 1st Lt Matthew Gabreski:
In today’s Air Force, Mustache March basically keeps us in tune with our war-fighting spirit, especially when it may not feel like we’re fighting a war day to day. It helps kind of keep all of our spirits in check, and makes us feel like we’re all a part of the war-fighting team.
{SOUND POP}
I would say it absolutely raises morale. It lets everyone feel like they’re having a little bit more fun at work. Some people look really good with a mustache, some people look really funny with a mustache, and it’s fun either way.
Reporter:... Best mustaches will be announced March 31st. Petty Officer Lorelei Vander Griend, Yokota Air Base, Japan…
