Lead: What does sleep mean for the rest of your day?
With your Bavaria Radio News Update, I'm Sgt. Bob Yarbrough. That story after this.
SGT BURCH/Military Family Appreciation Month:
November is Military Family Appreciation Month, and from now until the 30th the unpluggeed challenge continues, where you're challenged to spend more time with your family without distractions of electronic devices. Simply log your hours and activities you did while unplugged on the log sheet you can print from the ACS facebook. Log Sheets must be turned in in person December first through the ninth. Families with the most hours logged can earn garrison-wide recognition.

Sleep deprivation and sleep restriction is a chronic health concern throughout the Armed Forces, period, because of the unique environments that people are exposed to. People that suffer from sleep problems are also more likely to have unhealthy lifestyle patterns, they also have less focus, less daytime alertness, less reaction time, less mental acuity, and studies also indicate that people are more likely to have physical injuries when they're sleep deprived.
ANCHOR: That was Robert Gobble, the director at the Army Health and Wellness center on Rose Barracks, explaining how wellness starts with sleep. The United Health Foundation reported that Servicemembers lack sleep. The increase in this habit, studies show, is that sleep deprivation may actually be an indicator of being stressed. So when you're stressed and lack the ability to rest properly, that can lead to making bad choices and starting bad behaviors.

So here at the Wellness center, we offer healthy sleep classes once a month. With our healthy sleep classes we go over some basic strategies people can employ to try to get a handle on their sleep patterns, that can help them have better quality and quantity of sleep.
