1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley, Kansas, conducted a Memorial Ceremony on November 18, 2016, in remembrance of 62 German and 11 Italian Prisoners of War from World War II, who are buried at Fort Riley's Post Cemetery. These included prisoners who died from injuries or disease, or who chose to remain in the local area after the war, and were later buried here. A delegation of German and Italian Army officers serving at the Combined Arms Center, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, laid wreaths at the graves. Remarks were presented by German Army Colonel Carsten Treder, and Italian Army Major Antonio Laudando.
