Marines with 1st Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, train using communications gear during a field exercise aboard Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., October 18, 2016. The purpose of the field exercise was to train the elements of the unit as one in preparation for the upcoming Marine Corps Combat readiness Evaluation. Marines practiced using and maintaining different types of communication gear in the field. The 1st Marine Division is employed as the ground combat element of I Marine Expeditionary Force and provides the ground combat forces necessary for ship to shore forcible entry operations.
