September 11, 2001 marks a date not easily forgotten in our nation's history. Step by step, Team Minot firefighters climbed the equivalent of 110 stories - the height of the Twin Towers that fell 15 years ago, to honor the first responders who lost their lives saving others during the terrorist attacks.
Gavin Hoeft: "What they went through is just unimaginable where they climbed and people were passing them scared people passing them, and they were running up there to fight the fire that was 80 something floors above them is just unimaginable. So when we climb that's what we're thinking about."
Members from Minot Rural fire department joined the base firefighters at 0846 - the time the first tower hit - to start climbing. The first Airman up the stairs carried an American flag that was recently flown on an F-16 in a deployed location.
SrA Nickolas Torrez: "I thought there was no better way that I could represent the 343 firefighters that died by carrying this flag."
Reporting from Minot Air Force Base I'm A1C Izabella Sullivan.
