    Narration:
The U.S. Army Garrison Japan Fire and Emergency Services, U.S. Medical Activity Japan and American Red Cross participated in the annual Zama City Disaster Drill which was held recently at Kurihara Elementary School near Camp Zama.

Interview: Morihiro Takeda, Crisis/Emergency Response Management Office, Zama City
We focused on enhancing emergency measures and smoother operations in this year’s Zama city disaster drill which included strengthening the collaboration among the organizations within the city. We also want to increase citizens' awareness of disaster prevention.
Hopefully, this drill will help demonstrate disaster response techniques and the equipment for each organization that participates in the exercise.

    Narration:
A wide variety of disaster response skills were demonstrated by the many organizations of Zama city. The drill included a joint rescue operation among firefighters from Zama city, Camp Zama and members of Japan Ground Self-Defense Force 4th engineer group. They trained together on rescuing victims trapped inside collapsed buildings. MEDDAC Japan also provided a booth where they demonstrated fake injury make-up for the citizens of Zama city.

Interview: Mikiyo Endo, Mayor, Zama City
Unfortunately, the weather didn’t hold out but the rain brought a sense of tension and made the exercise more realistic for all participants. As always, the U.S. Army Garrison Japan Fire and Emergency Services participated in the exercise and for the first time the American Red Cross from Camp Zama also participated so we were able to conduct a very successful exercise this year.

Interview: Maj. Robin Pinckney, Deputy Director, Directorate of Emergency Services, USAG Japan

    Narration:
More than 37 different organizations and hundreds of citizens from Zama city, took part in this year’s Disaster Drill. Reporting for U.S. Army Garrison Japan Public Affairs, this is JanaYork.
