735th Air Mobility Squadron "Port Dawg" Staff Sergeant Brett Kiser was taking a break from studying for promotion and was on a call with his wife, who was then serving in Korea, when he smelled smoke. On December 31, 2015 rescued an occupant from their apartment complex when a fire broke out in the oven while they were asleep. Once he got the occupant to safety, Sgt. Kiser returned to the unit to put out the flames. For his selfless act of courage, Staff Sergeant Brett Kiser was awarded the Honolulu Fire Department's highest honor, the Medal of Valor on May 5, 2016.
