April 18th 1942 as a Second Lieutenant, retired Lieutenant Colonel Dick Cole flew alongside General James “Jimmy” Doolittle in Aircraft No. 1. He was one of 80 pilots, gunners, navigators and bombardiers aboard 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers that flew over Japan executing a dangerous, yet successful surprise attack, known as the Doolittle Raid.
