Script:
Warmer weather has brought out motorcycle riders itching to abandon their cars in favor of two wheel transportation. Air Force safety officials remind riders however that there are a few rules to road, particularly if motorcycle riders want to ride on base.
According to Senior Master Sgt. Rick Irwin who is an occupational safety manager for the Air National Guard’s 185th Air Refueling Wing, in Sioux City, Iowa, riders who come on base are required to carry a Motorcycle Safety Foundation or MSF card. Riders are also required to ware certain personal protective equipment like a helmet, boots and long pants.
Irwin says riders can enroll in a safety course in order to obtain their MSF card on many active duty bases. For members of the National Guard and Reserve certified MSF courses are also offered at area community colleges. Irwin said that because safety is a major concern for Air Force leadership, the cost for the motorcycle safety course can be refunded through the base or Wing safety office.
