Sgt. Kenneth A. Altazan was awarded the Navy Cross at the U.S.S. Kidd Veterans Memorial in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on October 13, 2015. Though Altazan received the Silver Star for his actions while serving in the Republic of Vietnam on May 8, 1969, new evidence of his heroics called for him to receive the Navy Cross.
