Six new regional NATO headquarters are to be officially opened in countries along the eastern part of the Alliance. The NATO Force Integration Units or NFIUs will help facilitate the rapid deployment of Allied forces to the region, support collective defense planning and assist in coordinating training and exercises. The roll out of the NFIUs was agreed at the Wales Summit last year. The units are part of measures in the Readiness Action Plan, designed to provide assurance for NATO allies. The NFIUs are located in Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Each NFIU will be manned by a total of 40 staff, half of them coming from the host nation. Footage includes GVs of the NFIUs in Romania and Lithuania plus soundbites from NFIU personnel.
