U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard combat engineers came to Fort Chaffee, Ark. to compete in Sapper Stakes 2015. This year, 20 Sapper teams competed to earn the title of the best sapper team. Each team was made up of six Soldiers and a maximum of two alternates, competing in events that tested both their physical and mental prowess. On their second day, teams participate in events to test their combat engineering knowledge. Soldiers started the day with an Army Physical Fitness test comprised of push-ups, sit-ups and a two-mile run. Afterwards Teams set up a shape charge to create a hole to place and detonate a crater charge. These charges are used in mobility and counter mobility operations. Teams also carried a skedco sled weighing approximately 200 pounds up a road and back in a timed event. Soldiers also emplaced a hasty frat fence around a minefield using fence posts and concertina wire. Teams also emplaced an 11-row wire obstacle using barbed wire and concertina wire. In another physical event teams had 10 minutes to do as many sit-ups as possible. Also available in high definition.
